There was quite a bit of talk about lobsters this past week. However, these conversations were not alluding to the tasty, expensive shellfish often flown in from Boston, but rather to the unfortunate vacationers that came in last week and spent their first day here out on the water with their shirts off. Actually, some of these anglers ended up a considerably brighter red then a fresh, boiled lobster.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reminds anglers that the recreational harvest season for red snapper in Gulf of Mexico waters has changed. The open season now takes place from June 1 through Sept. 30.

It is Easter, but if you are a fisherman, you can forget the eggs.

Teaching children a lifelong hobby and appreciation for our marine environment, while offering a fun family outing, are the objectives for the Naples Kids’ Fishing Clinic. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the Florida Foundation for Responsible Angling, the Foundation of Marine Industries Association of Collier County Inc. and the Sport Fish Restoration Program will offer the free Kids’ Fishing Clinic for children between the ages of 4 and 16 on Saturday, April 25. Registration will be 9 a.m. - noon. The clinic will be at the Naples City Fishing Pier.

April is just around the corner and should be the turning point for some productive fishing and catching on most all fishing fronts.

Got thinking about this subject a couple of weeks back when a potential customer called in the midst of those near-freezing mornings with a frantic plea to book a charter.

The Backwater Classic will be Friday and Saturday in Naples.

April is the last month of open snook season until next fall, and right now the snook are certainly there and in incredible numbers. Yet, there are still some anglers who are having trouble finding these elusive insiders.
